Ideas And Inspiration For Our Music Video

Ideas And Inspiration For Our Music Video

For our coursework (creating a music video) we have decided to work as a 3 (Megan, Joely, Me) we have made the decision to be a soft rock girl band. We want to be a proper band who play that guitar, drums, base and sing in our video in contrast to the usuall cheesy girl band as we want to be more unique. We are yet to create a breif and background story however we have made some notes and ideas and have made a unanimous choice of song to make the music video for.

REPUBLICA - 'ready to go'

We chose this video as it just fits into our ideas of a pop/rock edgy video of which is different from the average cheesy girl band type therefore we are going to use this song to create our music video for.

Ideas Of Names To Call The Band
  • Tropicana
  • Rock Starz
  • Fruit Pastels
  • Concrete Roses
  • Enchanted
  • Rock Roses
  • Unlicensed
  • Dragon Fly
  • Liars
  • Rock Out
In conclusion we all thought the name 'Dragon Fly' would be the best name and most symbolic to the band.

Idea Of Band Image

  • Joely- short 'funky' hair and red lipstick.
  • Megan- wavey natural hair, mid length with bows in ,girly look.
  • Charlotte (me)- focus on eyes, big eye lashes, smoky eye shadow/eyeliner long hair.
These are a few idea we spoke about for our band image. Featues that could be signature to our look. We want to look unique yet still quite girly and fun at the same time.

Video Ideas
  • Documantry style
  • Preformance
  • Back stage shots-the fun side of the band
  • Montage
  • Shots band playing in a small roomwith different style lighting

Coldplay - Paradise: Music Video

Coldplay - Paradise

  • References to films as it uses conventions of a tittle sequence. which we now expect a strong narrative.

  • Elephant looks as if he has been imprisoned. The drawing on the wall is a snippet into what is missing from he's life and is a snippet in to what is to come.

  • references to london underground ,signs, boris bikes tube, bakerloo line

  • strong narrative created throughout

  • Goodwins 'relationship with lyrics and visuals' placards

  • music in relationship enhances the sky and builds to a climax were he is reunited with the friends shown drawn on the wall at the beginning.
  • pop rock
  • live performance elements (Goodwin)
  • promotes Coldplay

-graffiti
-hoods balaclavers
-women being sexulised

  • Black and white, dull , gritty surroundings reflects poverty within the estate.

  • P.O.V shots at the start going up the stairs of the station, showing us all around introducing us to Brooklyn

  • Things that represent genre hip-hop rap:Guns, criminal activity, balaclavas, graffiti, suitcase of money/drugs in the boot, police search, mainly black cast/ race tensions, run-down urban area of brooklyn, girls in bikinis, base ball caps, baggy jeans, hoodies, bling, street dancing.

  • lots of close-ups on Jay-z
  • record shop scene emphasising musical integrity
  • wedding photo in the bacground of a scene showing the one treasured memory as they dont have alot of good memorys living in a poor area

  • low angle shots of Jay-z makes him seem powerful puts the audience in awe of him

  • exit signs crop up throughout- a reoccuring motif
  • reoccuring of the 'diamond' also seen in the video referencesrock nation -promoting others on the label as well as himself

  • voyeuristic treatment of women although there are few shots of women throughout the video less than expected from the genre- this amplifies the message of the song that hes got lots of problems but "a bitch aint one"
  • the cuts keep up with the pace of the song
  • shots of the police officer lip syncing
  • shaky constant movement of the camera - represents his eventfull, hectic lifestyle, unpredictable.
  • tv screen of Jay-z face shown within the video screen- sets up the notion of looking

What Is The Purpose Of A Music Video?

Lady Gaga Case Study

                     LADY GAGA
The face of a blond woman. She is wearing black glasses. The right side of the glasses is covered by blue crystals. On the bottom of the left side of the glasses, the word "The Fame" is written in white.
Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta otherwise known by her stage name Lady Gaga, started playing the piano at the age of 4. she studied at the convent of scared heart and new york universitys tisch school of the arts before leaving to put her focus into her music.

She started preforming in manhattan, many of the untied states radio ,tv magazines ect companies are located here. after spending time preforming in the area she was signed with streamline records at the end of 2007. she was a song writer however Akon took a particular intrest in her vocal ability and signed her to his label "Kon Live Distribution"

Lady Gaga was first noticed by thepublic after the release of her first album "Fame" in 2008 released by interscope records. which was a dance-pop album with 1980's influenced pop music. it focuses on the love of fame and issues such as love ,sex, money drugs and sexual identity. the first two singles on the album gained international sucess this was "just dance" and "poker face".
Lady Gaga's she is clearly influenced in her videos as we see many examles of intertextuall references to other artists, films , eras. Her image however  is constantly changing with her outrageous shocking outfits , costumes hair makeup ect which reflects her image unpredictable and this is the reason audiences are so intreuiged in her. she never reveals her true identity as it is hidden under the bizzar image therfore we find ourselfs trying to work out who she really is.

Above are just SOME of the outrageous images that lady gaga has taken on over the years of her success. This meat dress costume proved to be contriversial. with animal rights campaigners condeming such a costume.
